Fairmont State University’s Cybersecurity Program Ranked 7th Nationally by Programs.com Page Title

Fairmont State University is proud to announce that its Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with an emphasis in Cybersecurity has been ranked 7th in the nation by Programs.com

Programs.com is a leading resource for individuals exploring cybersecurity education and career pathways. The platform offers clear, practical guidance on degree programs, certifications, and professional opportunities in the cybersecurity field.  

“Fairmont State University’s College of Science & Technology is proud to see our Computer Science with a concentration on Cyber Security program receive this recognition, which is a reflection of the relentless dedication of our faculty to remain cutting-edge and innovative while still providing a truly personal educational experience,” said Interim Dean of the College of Science and Technology Dr. Deb Hemler. “This honor simply affirms what we have long known– the degrees we award prepare our students to excel, and Fairmont State is a place where STEM education thrives.” 

Fairmont State’s computer science program prepares students with strong software development skills. The curriculum emphasizes systems and software engineering principles while fostering an understanding of the professional, ethical, and social responsibilities within the computing field. Students who pursue the Cybersecurity concentration gain additional training in cybersecurity concepts, attack methods, defense strategies, and vulnerability assessment. 

"At Fairmont State, the Computer Science program with a Cybersecurity concentration is designed to provide students with a strong technical foundation in computer science and practical experience in cybersecurity,” said Computer Science Chair and Professor Dr. Mahmood Hossain. “Students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and a solid understanding of secure software development. They learn how software attacks occur and strategies to identify and prevent vulnerabilities. Our program prepares students to succeed in a rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape."
