Fairmont State University has announced the 2026 recipients of the Presidential Scholarship,
the University’s premier academic scholarship. The award recognizes outstanding academic
achievement, leadership potential, and commitment to excellence among incoming first‑year
students. This year marks a significant milestone for the program, as the scholarship
was expanded to include out‑of‑state students for the first time, resulting in Fairmont
State’s first‑ever out‑of‑state Presidential Scholarship recipients.
“The Presidential Scholarship represents the highest academic honor Fairmont State
awards to incoming students,” President Mike Davis said. “These recipients have distinguished
themselves through exceptional academic accomplishment, leadership, and commitment
to excellence. We are proud to recognize this remarkable cohort and especially pleased
to welcome our first out‑of‑state recipients, a milestone that reflects Fairmont State
University’s expanding reach and growing reputation beyond West Virginia.”
The Presidential Scholarship provides comprehensive support, including tuition and
mandatory fees, room and board for on‑campus students, and up to $500 per semester
toward textbooks through the Fairmont State Online Bookstore.
These students represent a broad range of academic disciplines and career aspirations,
including healthcare, engineering, aviation, education, and design, and exemplify
Fairmont State University’s commitment to academic excellence, student success, and
accessible education.
The 2026 recipients and their intended majors include:
- Brayden Morton, Mount Nebo, WV — Professional Flight
- Iskandar Aoun, Fairfax, VA — Architecture
- Juliana Layman, Fairmont, WV — Nursing
- Kathleen Grant, Middletown, VA — Architecture
- Makenzie Bowen, Fort Wayne, IN — Architecture
- Maria Day, Bridgeport, WV — Biology
- Samuel Waybright, Shinnston, WV — Education
- Ty McCloud, Bristol, WV — Civil Engineering Technology
Selection for the Presidential Scholarship is highly competitive. Interested members
of the Class of 2026 were required to submit a completed Presidential Scholarship
application and essay,maintain a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5, achieve
a minimum ACT composite score of 26 or SAT score of 1180, and participate in an on‑campus
interview process.
To maintain the scholarship, recipients must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
after their first year and a 3.0 GPA in each subsequent year, complete at least 30
credit hours per academic year, and may receive the scholarship for up to eight semesters.
