Fairmont State University launches Fall 2022 as Welcome Week activities conclude

Aug 09, 2022

Over the weekend, Fairmont State University hosted its Welcome Week festivities taking place Thursday, August 4 – Sunday, August 7, allowing new students to become acclimated on campus prior to the first week of classes.

“Moving from home to college is a huge transition for students,” said Assistant Director of Student Life, Justin Rader. “Welcome Weekend is designed to not only introduce students to campus and allow them to meet new friends, but also to provide them with resources that help them get acclimated to life as a student, so they feel confident going into their first week of classes."

Welcome Weekend kicked off with the University’s move-in on Thursday, with hundreds of new students settling into their respective residence halls.

Friday marked the start of the 2022 – 23 academic year by continuing the Convocation Ceremony tradition. During the ceremony, the Class of 2026 took the academic oath and snapped their first class photo. Students participated in a Campus Picnic following Convocation and were able to familiarize themselves with resources available to them both on and off campus at the Community Resource Fair.

On Saturday, students explored communities surrounding campus aboard trolley rides throughout the City of Fairmont. Several other activities took place during the day including a Campus Hog Roast.

Welcome Week concluded on Sunday with the Fairmont State Day of Action, where the campus community gathered to participate in service projects taking place off-campus, benefitting local United Way agencies.

Several other activities taking place throughout the weekend, popular among new and returning students alike included:

  • Paint and sip
  • Falcon Field Day
  • Movie Night
  • Back to School Bash
  • Academic Orientations
  • Mountain Creative crafts and more

The first day of classes followed Welcome Weekend activities on Monday, August 8. Although classes are underway, prospective students are eligible to be admitted to the University through Friday, August 12 at 4 p.m.

“In order to best serve our region and surrounding communities, the University has extended our Fall 2022 application to continue providing educational opportunities to all who seek them at Fairmont State University,” said Fairmont State University Assistant Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment, Alicia Kalka. “Whether you are a first-time freshman, or an adult learner interested in finishing your degree, Fairmont State University is committed to your success throughout your college journey.”
