Fairmont State University appoints Ashley Maxey as Chief Human Resources Officer

Fairmont State University is further strengthening its leadership team and commitment to being a Great Place to Work through the appointment of Ashley Maxey as Chief Human Resource Officer. In this new role, Maxey will join the Executive Leadership Team, where she can represent Fairmont State University employees at the highest level of the University’s administrative processes.
“Ashley is an important and trusted leader at the University, and this new role reflects both the work she has already done and the importance we place on our people,” said President Mike Davis. “One of the commitments in our strategic vision is that Fairmont State will be a Great Place to Work. If we are serious about that goal, then the people, culture, and employee experience of this University need to be represented at the highest level of our decision-making. Adding Ashley to the Executive Leadership Team is one tangible way we are demonstrating that commitment.”
Maxey joined Fairmont State University in 2019 as a Benefits Manager before advancing to her most recent position as Director of Human Resources. Throughout her time at Fairmont State, she has developed a broad understanding of the University's workforce, employee needs, and human resources operations. Maxey holds a Master of Business Administration and has worked in multiple government contracting positions before her time at Fairmont State.
“I believe that being a Great Place to Work starts with recognizing that our people are our greatest strength. Every employee contributes to the success of Fairmont State and the experience we create for our students and community,” said Ashley Maxey.
As part of Fairmont State’s strategic vision to be A Great Place to Learn, Work, and Call Home, the Chief Human Resource Officer will lead the implementation of Fairmont State’s Human Capital Implementation Plan. This plan is ultimately about people: employee recruitment, employee growth, University recognition of employee contributions, creation of opportunities for employee success, and making Fairmont State a place where talented people want to build their careers.
“I am honored to take on this role and look forward to working alongside our executive team to build a culture where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow,” Maxey added. “Our Human Capital Plan is an opportunity to turn that commitment into meaningful action and ensure Fairmont State is a place where people are proud to work, build their careers, and make a difference.”
Fairmont State University’s effort to become the premier higher education employer in West Virginia will be facilitated through strategic endeavors like the Human Capital Implementation Plan and the appointment of people like Ashley Maxey to Executive Leadership roles. Decisions like these help Fairmont State University build a community distinguished by opportunity, growth, and achievement and a collaborative, engaged, and resilient workforce that delivers transformational impact for West Virginia and beyond.
