Fairmont State’s 2026-2027 Presidential Speaker Series Kicks Off with President of The Institute for Citizens Scholars Rajiv Vinnakota

Fairmont State University has announced the lineup for its 2026-2027 Presidential Speaker Series, continuing a campus tradition of bringing thought leaders to Fairmont State for meaningful conversations on issues shaping society today. The series will launch on September 1 at 6 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theater, with Rajiv Vinnakota, President of the Institute for Citizens & Scholars, presenting on Higher Education’s Civic Responsibility.
Vinnakota’s organization is dedicated to strengthening civic life by preparing young people to become informed, engaged citizens and effective leaders. Drawing on his work with higher education leaders across the country, he will discuss how institutions can foster civic engagement, productive dialogue across differences, and a deeper commitment to democratic participation.
“A university's mission extends beyond preparing students for successful careers. It should also prepare them to lead, serve, and contribute meaningfully to their communities,” said Fairmont State University President Mike Davis. “The Presidential Speaker Series brings nationally recognized leaders and innovators to campus to expand horizons, inspire new ideas, and encourage thoughtful dialogue. We are honored to welcome Raj Vinnakota to Fairmont State for a discussion about universities’ role in strengthening our society and our democracy.”
