Rock the Roost 2027: A West Virginia Battle of the Bands at Fairmont State University
Accepting band submissions July 1, 2026 – October 30, 2026
Rock the Roost will be a full-day music festival and battle of the bands on June 12,
2027, on Fairmont State’s campus. The event will celebrate the sounds, stories, and
talent of West Virginia by bringing together bands from across the Mountain State
for a day of live music, food, vendors, community, and competition.
Rock the Roost highlights West Virginia’s creativity, culture, and community. The event will feature live performances from local bands across a range of genres, including rock, country, bluegrass, indie, folk, alternative, hip-hop, and more. The festival is designed to showcase the depth and diversity of music being created throughout the state.
“Rock the Roost is exactly the kind of thing we want happening at Fairmont State,” said President Mike Davis. “In the summer of 2027, we’re going to welcome musicians from across West Virginia to campus and showcase the energy, creativity, and talent that make this state so special. We don’t just want Fairmont State to be a place people know about—we want it to be a place people come to, gather at, and get excited about. This has the chance to become something really special for our campus, our community, and the whole region. Our goal is simple: build a new tradition that people look forward to every single year.”
Rock the Roost reflects Fairmont State University’s commitment to serving as a cultural and community hub for North Central West Virginia and beyond. By bringing together musicians, fans, vendors, students, alumni, and community partners, the University is creating an opportunity to celebrate the creative energy of the Mountain State and build an event that can grow for years to come.
Fairmont State University is seeking eight original bands from across West Virginia to compete in Rock the Roost 2027. Submissions will open on July 1, 2026, and remain open until October 30, 2026. Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be based in West Virginia and primarily operate in-state
- No cover bands/cover songs are eligible. All music must be original.
- Must submit video of one original song performance to qualify for selection
- Must be available to perform on June 12, 2027
Selected bands will compete for cash prizes, including an Audience Choice Award.
