Fairmont State's Town and Gown Players are excited and honored to be one of the first theatre companies in West Virginia to produce Come From Away, which, at this moment, is one of the most popular shows in the world.

The play will be performed at Fairmont State's Wallman Theatre and runs June 19 through June 26. Come From Away, written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, is a musical that shows how our lives were affected and changed in the days after the 9/11attacks.

On September 11th, 2001, the United States airspace was closed, and over 4,500 planes were forced to land immediately. Thirty-eight planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers landed within two or three hours in the small, isolated town of Gander, Newfoundland. The population of the town doubled overnight with people of all nationalities and ethnicities, many of whom didn't speak English.

The story tells the initial reactions to the 9/11 attacks and the eventual interactions between the stranded passengers and the residents of the town, who opened their homes and hearts to provide food, shelter, and support, ultimately forming unlikely bonds, friendships, and even romances.

The musical will be directed by Troy Snyder. Because of the "global" nature of the story, the cast requires a diverse mix of actors, 18 and over, who play multiple characters involved in the story. If you have questions, feel free to message our Facebook page or email Leigh.riley@fairmontstate.edu
