Fairmont State Nursing Faculty Inducted into Sigma National Honor Society of Nursing
Fairmont State University proudly announces the induction of two esteemed faculty members from the College of Nursing, Bessie Fooks and Debra Harden, into the Sigma National Honor Society of Nursing. The prestigious ceremony took place on April 7 at Davis & Elkins College, marking a significant moment in celebrating nursing excellence.
The induction was part of a special event hosted by the Epsilon Delta-at-Large Chapter of Sigma, which now includes three partner institutions: Fairmont State University, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and the newly chartered Davis & Elkins College.
"We are not only proud to celebrate the induction of our faculty as nurse leaders into the Sigma Honor Society but also honored to join in academic excellence and leadership alongside our valued partners at Davis & Elkins College and West Virginia Wesleyan College,” said Dr. Denice Kirchoff, Interim Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program, who attended the event alongside Professor and Interim Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program Chair Lisa Eades.
The ceremony was a collaborative event with both in-person and virtual components. Chapter President Melissa Franke was the Master of Ceremonies. Myra Washurn-Beye, Chapter Specialist, supported the virtual experience, while Dr. Weathers, serving as the Charter Amendment Ceremony Officer, officiated the proceedings remotely from Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Cornelius, Sigma Regional Director, also took part in the event, offering remarks and congratulations to the newly inducted members.
Also in attendance were representatives from fellow chapter institutions, including President Chris Wood of Davis & Elkins College, Dr. Michael Mattison, Provost and VP of Academic Affairs at Davis & Elkins College, Dr. Kimberly White, Director of the School of Nursing at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Dr. Huixin Wu Chair of the Division of Nursing and Director of the Bachelor's Nursing Programs at Davis & Elkins College, Valerie Posey Chapter Counselor of Davis & Elkins College and former President Janet Gilberti.
