Fairmont State Model UN Builds on National Success, Sets Sights on Greater Impact in 2026

Model UN students and advisors

Fairmont State University’s Model United Nations (MUN) team has returned from the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in New York City with national honors, earning an Honorable Mention at the closing ceremony. This distinction—roughly equivalent to a third-place finish—recognizes delegations that demonstrate excellence in diplomacy, committee participation, and adherence to official UN procedure.

The team competed during Conference B and represented the nation of Bahrain. The NMUN awards are highly selective, and most attending schools received no formal recognition. Fairmont State’s delegation stood out not only for the quality of its performance but also for the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by every student.

“Considering our team's size relative to other schools that placed, we truly punched above our weight,” said the team’s advisor, Professor Robert Bolton. “I am extremely proud of our team's performance. Each and every member represented Fairmont State University with professionalism and made a valuable contribution to our joint effort.”

Fairmont State’s 2025 MUN delegation included eight student delegates:

Riley Neal – Poca, WV

Ashton Louden – Craigsville, WV

Alec Bolyard – Kingwood, WV

Bryson Riggleman – Petersburg, WV

Emily Trivolette – Leivasy, WV

Jayden Sharps – Madison, WV

Christina Brown – Indore, WV

Zach Krason – Charleston, WV

They were coached by Bolton, Assistant Professor of National Security & Intelligence, and supported by Dr. William H. Harrison, Associate Professor of Political Science. Three team members were returning delegates, and nearly all plan to return for the 2026 conference.

Bolton emphasized how meaningful the university’s support has been: “I’ve told my students time and again that Fairmont State goes above and beyond in supporting its students—especially those who show motivation and talent. That support made this experience possible, and it was appreciated by every member of the team.”

With strong momentum, national recognition, and a core group of returning students, the Fairmont State MUN program is already preparing for next year’s conference and aiming even higher.

Fairmont State University is proud to support the Model United Nations program and provide students with enriching, hands-on learning opportunities like this one. Experiences such as NMUN reflect the University’s deep commitment to being a Great Place to Learn—where students are challenged, supported, and empowered to succeed both locally and on the world stage.
