Students not in the Fairmont area are welcome to test at a center closer to them. Test scores can then be sent to Fairmont State University. Find a testing center near you. Other locations include: WVU at Parkersburg, Blue Ridge, Mountwest, Pierpont, and Potomac.
Upcoming and current students who wish to take the ACCUPLACER should schedule an appointment with Rae Hill, the LEAD Center test proctor. Please request an appointment by emailing rae.hill@fairmontstate.edu and include the course number of the class you are trying to test into. All students will need a photo ID in order to test.
Dual-enrollment students are eligible to take the ACCUPLACER when seeking placement in a college level course that requires proof of skill level above that of a high school course. In most cases, this will mean placement in a College Algebra without support course (MATH1530). An ACCUPLACER score of 260 is required for placement in a MATH1530 class.

Current Fairmont State Students (including Middle College) are eligible to take the ACCUPLACER if any of the following conditions apply:
Students MUST bring a valid photo ID to their testing session or they will NOT be permitted to enter the testing room. Valid forms of ID include: Student ID, Military ID, Driver's License or Permit, Government-issued ID.
Students who arrive to their testing sessions without ID will need to reschedule their ACCUPLACER test.
No other personal belongings are permitted in the testing room, but can be left in the library. Calculators are not permitted; an on-screen calculator is provided by ACCUPLACER for certain questions.
Only the student testing is allowed in the test center. No relatives are allowed in the test center, but they are welcome to wait in the library seating area.
Scheduled dual enrollment sessions are offered in the spring and summer. These sessions require prior registration. Dual enrollment students are only eligible to test twice per year.
Incoming and current students should be referred by an advisor or faculty member to the LEAD Center. It is recommended students take the ACCUPLACER as early as feasible so there is a higher likelihood seats are available if a student needs to register for a different course.
If the available times or location of Fairmont State University do not work for a student, please use this link to find other testing sites in the state. Pierpont and WVU are additional local options that offer the ACCUPLACER.
Fairmont State University's LEAD Center offers two versions of the MATH ACCUPLACER: QAS (Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics) and AAF (Advanced Algebra and Functions). The English portion of the ACCUPLACER is also available.
Exams meant for students with accommodations are also available upon request.
The ACCUPLACER has specific versions of the test for students with certain accommodations. Please inform the LEAD Center of any accommodations as early as possible as some of the accommodated exams are paper and must be special ordered. Accommodations must be confirmed by the university.
The following accommodations are not specifically offered for the ACCUPLACER because they are not applicable: extended time, reduced distraction environment, use of a calculator.
The ACCUPLACER is NOT a pass/fail exam. It is a placement test used to determine a student's current skill level for correct course placement.
MATH1530 (Algebra without Support or dual enrollment College Algebra) requires a score of 260 or higher for enrollment. Please see your advisor, guidance counselor, or dual enrollment instructor for more information on course requirements.
The student will be able to immediately view their test results upon completion of the test. Results will also be emailed to the student so they can view their results.
Distribution of test results to high schools can take a week or longer, so please plan accordingly.
Results will be emailed to the student and sent to Fairmont State University’s admissions office. If a student wishes to send the results to other colleges and universities, they can input that information while verifying their personal information in the test center prior to starting the exam.
The test proctor, test site manager, and student will be able to immediately review the ACCUPLACER results once the exam is submitted.
If the student is a dual enrollment student, the results will also be sent to Fairmont State university’s dual enrollment office. Once the dual enrollment office receives the results, they will distribute them as necessary to high schools, teachers, and guidance counselors.
Because this process can take time, it is recommended that high school students wishing to take dual enrollment courses register to take the ACCUPLACER the semester prior to their dual enrollment course. Results could take a week or longer to be distributed to high schools.
If the student is a current FSU student, results may be shared with Academic Advising, their advisor, and other relevant FSU faculty and staff.
Students may only retake the ACCUPLACER test twice per year. No-show appointments count as an attempt. If a student no-shows without prior cancellation (at least 24 hours in advance) twice, they will be denied further test appointments.
Multiple sessions for the same student scheduled at one time will be canceled.
There must be at least one week between test attempts. Tests can be rescheduled through Appointy (Dual enrollment students) or by emailing rae.hill@fairmontstate.edu (Current students).
Students must register for the ACCUPLACER using their legal name as it appears on their photo ID. If a student does not wish to be addressed using their legal name, this information can be included in the scheduling notes or can be emailed to the test proctor at lead@fairmontstate.edu.
