Vanessa Sword, a 2004 Fairmont State graduate, is the global HR Leader at Microban International with over 20 years’ experience leading Human Resources across various industries. Vanessa enjoys being a part of the Microban leadership team where she leads the HR function globally across nine countries. Vanessa is passionate about supporting business leaders to develop talent and increase organizational capabilities, therefor elevating business success.

Vanessa has held HR leadership roles with USPA Global, Chewy, Sam’s Club, Amazon, and Pepsi Bottling Group. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications at Fairmont State University and a Master of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations at West Virginia University.

Natalie Feltz is an Associate Professor of Culinary Arts and the Program Coordinator for Food Service Management, Culinary Arts, and Pastry & Baking at Pierpont Community & Technical College in Fairmont, West Virginia. A graduate of Fairmont State University’s MBA program, she brings a combined background in hospitality management, culinary arts, and organizational leadership to her work in higher education. 

Natalie served as the project manager for the relocation of Pierpont’s Food Service Management programs to the Middletown Commons campus. In this role, she designed the culinary facilities, coordinated the layout and workflow of instructional spaces, and oversaw the specification and procurement of major equipment to support program growth and student learning. 

Natalie is the current President of the West Virginia Chapter of the American Culinary Federation. Her professional work includes industry judging, statewide culinary presentations, community engagement, and, for many years, writing a weekly food column for the Clarksburg Exponent & Telegram. She has been recognized with numerous awards, including Generation Next’s “40 Under 40”. 

This year, Natalie also expanded into entrepreneurship by launching a mobile bar business, Mix’n Mamas, with her partners Marissa Shreve and Ali Staley. The business quickly gained regional attention and was voted as the fan favorite in the Harrison County Chamber’s TANK Contest this fall. 

Deeply committed to student success and workforce development, Natalie shares her passion for Appalachian foodways, mentorship, and lifelong learning with the next generation of culinary and hospitality professionals.

Eric Stover, a 1994 Fairmont State graduate, is a Vice President of Training and Sales Enablement with over 20 years of experience in healthcare and MedTech. He is a distinguished leader in his field and leads sales and operations training for Philips’ ECG Solutions business, partnering with executive leaders to drive commercial performance, leadership development, and scalable growth. A former sales leader turned enablement executive, Eric brings a practical, field-tested perspective to building high-impact training organizations. He is also the host of the Leading Through podcast.

Interview with Mr. Travis Blosser

Mr. Travis Blosser, City Manager of Fairmont

Travis Blosser got his start in local government when he was elected to Fairmont City Council in 2012. He then served as the City Manager for both Shinnston and Weirton prior to joining the West Virginia Municipal League as its Executive Director. Through those positions, he’s gained a unique insight into municipal operations and managing complex systems — including partnerships with local, regional, and federal partners. In 2024, Travis returned home to Fairmont to serve as the City’s 10th City Manager and has been hard at work delivering the community Fairmont residents deserve.

Allen & Tommy Retton, Fairmont State Alumni
Current Profession: Executive Vice President & Director of Commercial Development for WesBanco/School Couselor- Harrison County
Spotlight Segment: 02/04/2026

Allen Retton, Executive Vice President & Director of Commercial Development for WesBanco, grew up in Grant Town, West Virginia.  He is a 1986 graduate of Fairmont State College (now University) with a BS degree in Business Administration and a 1988 graduate of West Virginia University with a Master's degree in Business Administration and has worked 31 years in the banking industry, 26 with WesBanco. He also worked 8 years outside the banking industry, in two different roles—in both the healthcare and coal construction industries, experiences that were fundamental to his development.   He currently serves as a director of both the West Virginia Housing Development Fund and the West Virginia Banker's Association. He previously served on the boards of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Fairmont feels honored to have the opportunity to serve twice as chairman of both organizations.  In addition, he has served on several other volunteer boards and commissions, both as a member and an officer.

His wife Joni is also a Fairmont State grad.   Together, they have two sons; Andrew (and spouse Brittany) and Tommy (and spouse Olivia); one grandson, Nathan; three granddaughters, Addie, Gwen and Ellie; and we are expecting another grandson in the Spring.

Tommy Retton, attended his hometown university Fairmont State University from 2014 - 2018. Originally enrolled as a Business student, Retton decided to change majors at the end of his freshman year and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Retton attended Marshall University from 2020-2022, where he completed his Masters in School Counseling. He is in the fourth year of his profession, working as a School Counselor at Mountaineer Elementary School in Harrison County (formerly North View Elementary School). Retton and his wife, Olivia, continue to live in Fairmont with their 3-year-old daughter Eleanor, and are expecting their son Everson in late March of this year. Retton is a proud Falcon alumni, attributing much of his career stability and success to attending Fairmont State University."
