Falcons with Pride provides safe space for all on campus
Falcons with Pride is a student-led organization that focuses on creating a safe and inclusive space for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Students are encouraged to keep an open mind and explore their identity without fear or judgment. The Falcons with Pride organization allows students to connect with their peers and find a sense of community that they can turn to for comfort.
Not only does Falcons with Pride provide peer support and a space for students to be confident and comfortable, but they also focus on sharing lessons of inclusivity amongst the campus and surrounding communities. Falcons with Pride members are frequently spotted at on and off campus events, typically sporting the familiar rainbow colors of the LGBTQ+ community while sharing a message of inclusiveness.
Throughout the month of June Falcons with Pride has shared educational content on various social platforms in celebration of Pride Month, including information about different sexualities and gender identities included within the LGBTQ+ umbrella.
Although Falcons with Pride has a strong public presence, Coadvisor Jacki Sherman stresses that you can still join if you are not yet publicly out with your identity and your privacy will be protected.
“Falcons with PRIDE is a safe haven,” Sherman said. “If you are LGBTQ+ but you aren’t out, Falcons with PRIDE will respect your privacy and make sure you don’t appear in anything the group posts to social media.”
Sherman also explained everyone is welcome at Falcons with Pride, even if they don’t identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
“You don’t have to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community to join,” Sherman added. “Allies are welcome, encouraged to join and crucial to making college life and the world beyond an environment of respect and appreciation for one another.”
