Fairmont State University Student Awarded the Stephen Lee Guentert Memorial Internship
The Fairmont State University College of Business & Aviation and Xcelerate Solutions have awarded the inaugural Stephen Lee Guentert Memorial Internship to Fairmont State student, Eugene Barbery III.
The internship was presented to Barbery on Monday, May 2 at the Fairmont State College of Business & Aviation Virtual Award Ceremony. The summer internship was established in honor of Guentert to be awarded to promising Fairmont State students majoring in business.
Guentert graduated from Fairmont State with a degree in computer science. He spent his career working as a software engineer for more than 25 years, supporting a diverse set of projects and customers. At the time of his passing, Guentert was employed by Xcelerate Solutions as a senior data integrations software engineer.
“Stephen's technical acumen, work ethic and character enhanced the lives of everyone he worked with, and Xcelerate Solutions is a better place because of him,” said Xcelerate Solutions Vice President of Service Delivery, Director of FBI Programs and Senior Program Manager, Jim Dufford. “At Xcelerate Solutions we frequently say we are always looking for ‘another one like our best.’ Stephen was truly one of our best, and Xcelerate Solutions is proud to remember Stephen by providing a Fairmont State University student the opportunity to become another one like our best – another one like Stephen.”
In addition to the Stephen Lee Guentert Memorial Internship for students in the College of Business & Aviation, the Stephen L. Guentert Memorial Endowed Scholarship has also been established to provide financial support for computer science and cybersecurity students in the Fairmont State College of Science & Technology.
