Gov. Tomblin Honors S.T.A.N.D. for Community Service

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin recognized the Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College student organization Students Taking Action in Nature’s Defense (S.T.A.N.D.) with a special certificate for their participation in the Governor’s Day to Serve.

Tomblin proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 29, as the official date of the Day to Serve. The day is meant to be dedicated to strengthening local communities through volunteer service. Tomblin presented S.T.A.N.D. advisers Dr. Donald Trisel and Dr. Erica Harvey, student members and Fairmont State University President Maria Rose with the certificate during the ribbon cutting ceremony for The Nest Student Food Bank on Thursday, Sept. 27.

“West Virginians are known for their kindness, compassion and neighborly spirit,” Tomblin said in a press release about the Day to Serve.

As part of its efforts to officially adopt Locust Avenue in Fairmont through the Adopt A Highway program, S.T.A.N.D. will be participating in Locust Avenue clean-up on Saturday, Sept. 29, from noon to 3 p.m. Those who would like to help should meet at the Wesley Foundation House on Locust Avenue.
