A3L Federal Works, LLC, (A3L), a Fairmont, WV, based company, recently designated $20,000 to be used by the NASA Education Resource Center for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. A3L is passionate about supporting and giving back to the local community through the advancement of its youth.

“As a female engineer and business owner, I am committed to helping promote STEM-related education and activities among West Virginia youth,” said company owner Roya Maher. “I care about helping children who are motivated and need help accessing opportunities. I will help any organization whose mission is to help people in need and promote STEM education for West Virginia children. My company needs engineers and technical professionals; my goal is to keep the talent in WV and hire our amazing students to help boost the economy of our beautiful Mountain state.”

Maher founded A3L and currently serves as President and CEO of the company. The name “A3L” comes from the initials of her four children’s names to honor the love she has as a mother for her children”.

A3L provides project management, systems and software engineering and development, science and technology solutions, process improvement, mission assurance, performance metrics, cybersecurity solutions, and technical training. A3L’s target customers are federal and state government agencies, as well as commercial clients.

A3L has long supported the needs of students and programs in STEM and robotics through generous financial donations and through volunteering. Maher has shared her experiences as a female engineer and business owner in STEM with youth at several events as a keynote speaker, in addition to serving as a judge at robotics tournaments. Maher said, “I love seeing the passion and excitement when students share the details of their projects with us.”

“A3L’s donation has allowed us to host numerous state robotics championships, hire AmeriCorps members who serve WV children and our country for a year alongside, and sponsor numerous robotics and drone teams from underrepresented groups,” said Todd Ensign, Program Manager of the NASA Katherine Johnson IV&V Education Resource Center.“ The support of local businesses, both financially and in the form of volunteers, allows us to have an outsized impact on the STEM experiences of youth in West Virginia. Our state boasts the largest drone tournament and robotics programs that impact thousands of students that would not be possible without dedicated supporters who believe in our mission.”
