Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art and the Fairmont State University Department of Humanities is pleased to announce the publication of the Summer 2021 issue, Kestrel 45.
Kestrel 45 features visual art by Cynthia Yatchman and poetry and prose by returning contributors Gilbert Allen, Rick Campbell, Linda Heuring, Bob Kunzinger, Dean Rader, Elizabeth Rees, Todd Robinson, Jim Ross, David Salner, and first-time contributors Erica Bernheim, Nadia Colburn, Robert Conklin, Anne Coray, Barbara Daniels, Patricia Davis, Margaret Diehl, Sonia Greenfield, Charles Grosel, Lois Marie Harrod, Zebulon Huset, Stefan Karlsson, Jennifer Stewart Miller, William Pruitt, Laura Sobbott Ross, Jacob Sheetz-Willard, Enid Shomer, Leela Srinivasan, Mo Lynn Stoycoff, Tola Sylvan, Jacqueline Vogtman and Steven Winn. Reviews in the issue are by Rick Campbell and Greg Stidham.
"Not only does this exceptional issue of Kestrel present writing that’s changed editorial policies, but it also contains visual art, poetry and prose in which important shifts of perspective follow unexpected forms of vulnerability," said Poetry Editor, Elizabeth Savage.
Since 1993, Kestrel has published writers and artists from around the world, and since 2008 has celebrated each biannual issue by bringing contributors to Fairmont State’s campus for a weekend of literary events. Because of the ongoing pandemic, Kestrel held a virtual Celebration for issue 44 in May 2021 featuring twelve contributors. A virtual Celebration for Kestrel 45 will be held on December 10 and 11.
“I’m always so excited to experience the latest contributions to this exceptional literature and art journal,” said Fairmont State University President, Mirta M. Martin. “And Kestrel 45 will be no exception. Time after time, I am moved by the visual art and written words found in those pages. I want to give my heartiest congratulations and most sincere thanks to the Kestrel staff, and to each of the talented artists participating.”
