Fairmont State celebrates faculty achievements during annual award ceremony

Fairmont State honored faculty members during the University’s first in-person Faculty Awards Ceremony since the COVID pandemic on Thursday, May 5. During the ceremony, faculty members were recognized for their achievements throughout the academic year and beyond.

“Thank you for everything you have done,” said Fairmont State University President, Dr. Mirta M. Martin. “It has been a remarkable, unprecedented, two years. Years that many of us had wished that never occurred, but the resilience of the faculty, our staff, our students and our Falcon Family got us through these past two years. And for that, I will be eternally grateful.”

Several were granted Faculty Achievement Awards during the celebration including:

·     Professor of Forensic Science, Dr. Mark Flood – Faculty Recognition Award

·     Professor of Forensic Science, Dr. Mark Flood – Falcon Grant

·     Assistant Professor of Biology, Dr. Kelley Flaherty – Faculty Development Grant

·     Associate Professor of Community Health, Dr. Janie Leary – Excellence in Online Teaching Award

·     Senior Professor of English, Dr. J Robert Baker – Innovation in Teaching Award

·     Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Hugh Costello – William A. Boram Award

·     Professor of Exercise Science, Dr. Paul Reneau – Academic Advising Award

Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Dianna Phillips, recognized faculty members for their years of service, ranging from five – 35 years.

Five Years of Service:

·     Dr. Joseph Kremer

15 Years of Service:

·     Nenad Radulovich

·     Dr. Clarence Rorhbaugh

·     Dr. Todd Ensign

20 Years of Service:

·     Dr. Elizabeth Savage

·     Dr. Matthew Hokom

·     Dr. Ann Shaver

35 Years of Service:

·     Randall Baker

Phillips also named those receiving promotions and tenure. The faculty honored for their advancement included Dr. Todd Clark, College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Musat Crihalmeau, College of Science & Technology, Dr. Brian Blackwood, College of Science & Technology, Philip Freeman, College of Science & Technology, Dr. Kristi Kiefer, College of Education, Health & Human Performance, Dr. Julie Reneau, College of Education, Health & Human Performance, and Dr. Ashley Shroyer, College of Nursing. 

The recipients of the Emeritus Faculty Awards were also recognized by the Provost and their colleagues, including:

·     Dr. Sharon Boni - College of Nursing

·     Ellen Condron - College of Nursing

·     Dr. Debra Hoag - College of Nursing

·     Dr. Sharon Smith - College of Education, Health & Human Performance

·     Dr. G.H. Bud Sapp - College of Education, Health & Human Performance

·     Dr. Roxanne Humbert - College of Education, Health & Human Performance

·     Dr. Warren Baker - College of Education, Health & Human Performance

·     Dr. Leland George - College of Liberal Arts

·     Dr. Rhonda Sanford - College of Liberal Arts

·     Dr. Anne Patterson - College of Liberal Arts

In addition, Dr. Robin Payne and Kirk Morphew were named and applauded as the Sabbatical Award Recipients.

Faculty retirees from the University were also recognized by Phillips during the ceremony including Dr. Joe Shaver, College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Ann Shaver, College of Liberal Arts, and Dr. Francine Kirk, College of Liberal Arts.

“This event is all about you and the work you’re doing as the faculty of this institution. It has been the privilege of my life to be the Provost here,” Phillips said as the ceremony concluded.
