Fairmont State University Honors 2010-2011 Retirees

Jul 01, 2011

Eight Fairmont State University employees were honored during the annual Retiree Reception. Faculty, staff, retired FSU and Pierpont Community & Technical College employees and the community gathered in the Turley Center Ballroom to honor 2010-2011 retirees.

Dr. Maria Rose, FSU Interim President, presented the FSU retirees with individual plaques for their years of service to higher education.

“As I look across this audience, I see dedication and diligence,” Rose told those gathered for the event. “I see proper priorities and perspectives--that our students always come first. I see reliability and high levels of competence. I see educational excellence. All of these traits are due, in part, to each of the retirees being honored here. It is through your dedication to passing on these values to those new to the institution that we are able to foster a community of caring for our students.”

The following FSU faculty members were among the retirees:

James Goodwin, Associate Professor of Technology, Department of Technology, 1971-2011

James C. “Jim” Goodwin began his teaching career and dedication to students in 1965 as a part-time instructor at West Virginia University. During the past 40 years, Goodwin has been a faculty member, program coordinator and chairperson in the Technology Department.

Judith A. Turbanic, Assistant Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing & Allied Health Administration, 1995-2011

Judith Turbanic started her career at Fairmont State as a part-time clinical instructor for the Department of Nursing in the Division of Science, Mathematics and Health Careers in the fall of 1994. Turbanic has 37 years of teaching experience and 40 years of nursing experience.

The following staff members were among the retirees:

The Office of Student Affairs provides services to FSU and Pierpont.

Paul Boyce, Trades Specialist I, FSU and Pierpont Physical Plant, 1992-2011

Paul Boyce began his career at Fairmont State 19 years ago. He started out as a part-time security employee in 1992, and he worked his way up through the ranks to be a Trades Specialist Lead. The Physical Plant provides services to FSU and Pierpont.
