Mirta M. Martin to Serve as Three Rivers Festival Grand Feature Parade Marshal

May 26, 2021

Fairmont State University President, Mirta M. Martin, will serve as the Three Rivers Festival Grand Feature Parade Marshal on Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m. to launch the 42nd annual festival’s events, celebrating “42 Years of Bridging the Past with the Future.”

“Our community has such a rich history, celebrated each year at the Three Rivers Festival,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “This year’s celebration is even more special as we begin to not only re-engage with community activities, but more importantly, also reconnect with each other. I am honored to serve as the Ceremonial Parade Marshal, and I look forward to celebrating this community’s proud history -- and bright future -- with my fellow citizens.”

The parade commences at the intersection of Fourth Street and Fairmont Avenue. The route will then pass the Marion County Courthouse to proceed across the high-level bridge on Jefferson Street, concluding at the Merchant Street entrance of Palatine Park.

“We are honored to have Dr. Martin be the Ceremonial Marshal to lead the parade,” said Jon Dodds, WV Three Rivers Festival Board of Directors Member. “This is such a special year for the event and for our community, and we are grateful that she will be leading the way to begin the festival.”

The Grand Parade leads into the Three River’s Festival Opening Ceremonies on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Palatine Park Pavilion. Family-oriented event festivities will take place throughout the weekend including free nightly entertainment, carnival rides and activities, the annual pepperoni roll bake-off, a large-scale fireworks display, among several others.
