Fairmont Flashback is theme of 2017 FSU Homecoming

Sep 25, 2017

Fairmont State University’s 1967 NAIA National Championship Football team will be celebrated during Homecoming 2017 with the theme “Fairmont Flashback 1967.” Homecoming will be held Sept. 25 - 30, with a variety of events for students, alumni, faculty, staff and the Falcon community.

"I am extremely proud that we have the opportunity to honor the 1967 National Championship football team during this year's homecoming celebration. This group of men exemplify the meaning of discipline, hard work and commitment to academics – all key characteristics for collegiate student-athletes," said Dr. Stephen B. Jones, Interim President of Fairmont State.

The focus of Thursday, Sept. 28, will be the annual Homecoming Parade, sponsored by ACE Hardware, in downtown Fairmont. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Following the parade at 7 p.m. will be an Alumni Gathering at Joe N’ Throw, 323 ½ Adams St. This event is free.

Friday, Sept. 29, will feature the Emeritus Induction Luncheon to welcome the Class of 1967 into the Emeritus Club. The luncheon will take place at 11 a.m. in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms. General admission tickets are $15. The event is sponsored by the Civil and Environmental Consultants, CEC.

One of the highlights of Homecoming will be the induction of the 1967 NAIA National Championship Football team into the Fairmont State Athletics Hall of Fame. The team will have a reception at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms, sponsored by the FSU Foundation. The Induction and Banquet will begin at 6 p.m. in the Falcon Center Gym 1. General admission tickets for that event are $50 and can be purchased by calling the athletic department at (304) 367-4220 or online. All coaches and players from the 1967 Fairmont State football team have been invited to this event and select individuals will reflect on the team’s run to the championship.

"The annual Hall of Fame ceremony is a yearly celebration of the great history of Fairmont State Athletics and it is a privilege to all members of the Athletic Department, FSAA and selection committee to welcome the 1967 Football Team as the first team to be inducted into the Fairmont State Athletics Hall of Fame," said Director of Athletics, Tim McNeely.

Saturday morning will kick off with the annual Fairmont State Alumni Association Alumni Awards Brunch, sponsored by The Thrasher Group, Inc. Nine alumni will be honored during the event that begins at 10:30 a.m., in the Falcon Center third floor conference rooms. Honorees are Deborah Haught Prezioso and Richard Forren, Outstanding Alumni; Sandra Ross Rosenberger, Dr. Roberta Atha Strosnider, Ted Dreisinger and David Sago, Alumni Achievement; Dr. Mary Veltri Jordan and JP Miller, Outstanding Young Alumni; and Dr. Maria Bennett Rose, Lifetime Legacy.
