FSU Hosts Reception to Honor Superintendent Gary Price

Nov 18, 2011

Dr. Maria Rose, Fairmont State University Interim President, and Dr. Barbara Owens, Director of the Professional Development School (PDS) Partnership, hosted a congratulatory reception to honor Gary Price, newly appointed superintendent of Marion County Schools on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Shaw House on the main FSU campus.

Marion County principals, assistant principals, PDS liaisons, PDS coordinators, Marion County Board of Education members and FSU Board of Governors members were invited to attend.

Mannington native Gary Price was named as Superintendent of Marion County Schools in September 2011 and has been in the Marion County school system for 36 years.

The reception was held to recognize Price and to acknowledge that Marion County Schools comprise almost half of the number of schools in the PDS Partnership.

“We value our professional relationship with Marion County schools and we congratulate Mr. Price on his new appointment in this excellent school system,” said Dr. Barbara Owens, Director of the PDS Partnership.

The Professional Development School (PDS) Partnership at Fairmont State University began with three schools in Marion County and has expanded to include 40 schools in six counties. The PDS Partnership today includes schools in Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Taylor and Wetzel counties.

“The PDS Partnership enables a truly collaborative relationship between the public schools and Fairmont State that benefits each partner and directly impacts education throughout this region,” Rose said. She knows firsthand about the opportunities provided because for the past three years, she has participated in the partnership as the liaison for Whitehall Elementary School.
