Harvey named Director of Harrison County Operations

Fairmont State University announces Dr. Richard Harvey will serve as Director, Harrison County Operations, to oversee the expansion of facilities and programs in that region.

FSU has three facilities in Harrison County region, the downtown Clarksburg Gaston Caperton Center, the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center as well as the 10,000 square foot presence under construction in the Charles Pointe development. The facilities host some of FSU's degree programs in high-demand career fields, like nursing, criminal justice, information systems management and aerospace.

"Harrison County is an economically vibrant part of our region with a tremendous opportunity for growth,” FSU interim president Dr. Stephen Jones said. "Dr. Harvey will work with leaders in business and industry as well as government officials to grow our presence there so we can exponentially serve the county and the people in the region in new and innovative ways."

Harvey, who has been with Fairmont State University for more than 30 years, will continue to serve in his role as the dean of the School of Business. He is a professor of finance and business law and is a member of the graduate faculty and teaches the MBA course in law and ethics. Harvey, a lifelong resident of North Central West Virginia, is a member of the board for the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce and is the owner and president of a business consulting firm.

"Dr. Harvey is well suited to this new responsibility," said Dr. Christina Lavorata, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. "During his tenure as Dean of the School of Business, he has worked tirelessly to form partnerships with businesses, donors, and alumni.  He has sought internship opportunities for students, and has modernized the look of Jaynes Hall to reflect the atmosphere that School of Business graduates will find in the workplace.  Dr. Harvey is an excellent fit for this new position, as he has always used an innovative approach to his work.”

FSU officials anticipate the opening of its facilities in Charles Pointe at the start of the spring 2018 semester, and it will be the site of the Weekend Nursing Program and continuing education courses for those in the criminal justice field, two areas of major growth for the university. Officials also anticipate the growth of enrollment at the Caperton Center and the expansion of programming at the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center.

Harvey lives in Morgantown with his wife Beth and their two children, Cearah and Isaiah.
