Fairmont State Participates in WV College Application and Exploration Week beginning November 2

Nov 03, 2020

Fairmont State University is proud to participate in the 11th Annual West Virginia College Application and Exploration Week. College Application and Exploration Week is a campaign organized by the College Foundation of West Virginia, taking place November 2 – 6. The statewide campaign is hosted each year to increase efforts driven by the Higher Education Policy Commission to grow the number of students pursuing postsecondary education by supporting applicants and encouraging students to highlight their choice for higher education.

Fairmont State turns opportunity, passion and hard work into excellence in a vibrant, close-knit campus community where students and teachers become your friends for life. Students will enjoy the opportunities offered by a comprehensive state university combined with the personal attention and campus atmosphere students would expect from a small, private school.

“West Virginia College Application and Exploration Week is such an important event,” Mirta M. Martin, president of Fairmont State University, said. “Even before the pandemic, families were often overwhelmed with the college search process. And now, with even more concerns on their minds, an event like this that raises awareness regarding the transformational impact of a college degree is even more valuable.”

To further support Fairmont State applicants throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office of Recruitment and Admissions has added a live chat option on its page available Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Virtual admissions counselor appointments are also available to students. Students and families may visit the Office of Admissions and Recruitment webpage at fairmontstate.edu/admit to utilize these services.

Fairmont State University remains committed to providing students a transformative education and resources to succeed. In response to the global pandemic, the ACT or SAT test requirement for all first-time college freshman, entering Fairmont State University for the fall 2020 semester, has been waived. For more information, please read our update.

“The Falcon Family has soared to extraordinary heights to preserve, as much as possible, the traditional on-campus learning experience – offering on-campus classes for the entire semester this fall,” said Chris Sharps, Senior Director of Recruitment. “Our faculty-mentors have transformed the learning experience to meet the demands presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. From our small class sizes, to the individual attention students receive, applying to Fairmont State University should be a top consideration for all West Virginia students. With so much of the traditional K-12 school schedules disrupted, our Recruitment staff are ready to help high school seniors like never before. The Office of Recruitment is online for live chat from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, we’re also available by phone, video conferencing and through our upcoming Maroon and White Week programming.”

Students are also encouraged to participate in Fairmont State University’s Virtual Maroon and White Week November 8–14. Maroon and White Week provides the opportunity for both traditional and non-traditional students and their families to explore Fairmont State’s offerings, including more than 80 programs of study.

Fairmont State University’s cozy, tree-filled hilltop campus is located in Fairmont, along the state’s growing high technology corridor. Fairmont State is a comprehensive, student-centered, state-supported institution offering 41-degree programs and over 80 programs of study in the arts and sciences, engineering and technology, teacher education, nursing and business administration. The institution is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
