Hawkins Appointed to FSU Board of Governors

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has appointed a new member to the Fairmont State University Board of Governors. Aaron L. Hawkins of Fairmont, a 1971 graduate of Fairmont State, attended his first board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16.

The FSU Board of Governors determines, controls, supervises and manages the financial, business and education policies and affairs of FSU.

After four years in the U.S. Air Force, Hawkins had a 36-year career in banking, retiring in 2011 from WesBanco Trust and Investment Services as Senior Vice President.

Born in Fairmont, Hawkins graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1967 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Fairmont State and an MBA from the University of Utah. He also attended the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He became a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor through the American Banker Association and attended various other banking schools.

Hawkins has continued to be involved with Fairmont State and a leader in the greater community. He is past president of the Fairmont State Alumni Association and has been a member of the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors for more than 30 years, and has served as past president of the Board. He is a past chairman of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, past secretary of the Fairmont Rotary Club, a current member and charter president of the South Fairmont Rotary Club, charter president and founder of the Fairmont Community Development Corporation, charter president of the North Central West Virginia Community Foundation, a past board member of Your Community Foundation, Inc., a past campaign chairman for the United Way of Marion County, chairman of the LIFE United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, member of the Administrative Board of LIFE United Methodist Church and a member of the West Virginia United Methodist Church Conference Finance Committee.

Hawkins and his wife LouAnne, a 1971 graduate of Fairmont State and retired Marion County Schools teacher, have two daughters, Cherie and Holly, and five grandchildren.
