Bennett, Hamilton Present Faculty Recital

Fairmont State Music Department faculty members Dr. Mary Lynne Bennett and Anne D. Hamilton will present a faculty recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 309 Baldwin St., Morgantown. Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Mary Lynne Bennett, Assistant Professor of Piano and Music Education at FSU, received her bachelors' degrees in biopsychology and music education from Oberlin College, a master's degree in piano pedagogy from West Chester University and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano pedagogy from the University of South Carolina. At FSU, Bennett teaches applied and group piano, elementary music methods and materials classes and is a staff accompanist in the music department. She has taught piano, general and choral music and served as an accompanist and music adjudicator in private, public, community music school and university settings in Ohio, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and South Carolina. Bennett has worked for the Educational Testing Service on the Music Assessments for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Project. Her research on continuing education of private piano teachers and its correlation with the National Standards of Music Education has been presented at state and national conferences. Bennett is a nationally certified teacher of piano with the Music Teachers National Association and serves as the West Virginia state certification chair of WVMTA.

Anne D. Hamilton received both her B.M. and M.M. in viola performance from West Virginia University. She has been a member of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra since 1986 and also works as a freelance violist/violinist in West Virginia and surrounding states. Some of the orchestras she performs with include the Seneca Chamber Orchestra in Charleston, The River Cities Orchestra in Parkersburg, W.Va., and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra in Roanoke, Va. Hamilton has been one of the Artist Faculty of the Fairmont State Community Music Program since 1993 teaching violin and viola. She also maintains private studios in Morgantown and Carmichaels, Pa., and is an adjunct faculty member at FSU (teaching violin and viola). Hamilton has previously taught at Alderson-Broaddus College in Phillippi, W.Va., and Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va. She has frequently adjudicated solo and ensemble festivals in Morgantown and Charleston.
