Seminar Focuses on Workers' Comp Changes
The Center for Workforce Education at Fairmont State and its regional West Virginia
Small Business Development Center are supporting the region's upcoming Employer Information
Exchange Sessions on Workers' Compensation.
A seminar titled "Workers" Compensation: Upcoming Changes and Reducing Your Rate"
will be offered in two sessions. The first session will be Tuesday, April 26, in Room
148 of the Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg. The second session will be Wednesday,
April 27, at the FS Center for Workforce Education at Veterans Square, 320 Adams St.,
Suite-GO1, Fairmont. Both sessions will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost
for each session is $25. This event is being planned in partnership with The Region
VI Business Center and its WORKFORCE West Virginia Centers.
The April 26 and 27 sessions will focus on legislative changes in Workers' Compensation
and reducing rates through risk-reduction efforts. David Casto, Director of Safety
and Loss Control, and Lisa Smith, Ombudsman, specializing in small business matters
for the Workers' Compensation Commission, will be leading the information exchange
sessions. They will also be joined by safety and risk reduction experts who can confidentially
answer specific questions and provide technical support.
"All employers need to be aware of the major changes in Workers' Comp that will occur
beginning in January 2006," said Paul Schreffler, Fairmont State Director for Economic
Development and Workforce Education. "This workshop will help companies understand
how they will be affected, as well as to identify how they can begin to put into place
programs that can reduce their rates."
The Region VI Business Center is the Workforce Investment Board's employer component
for the 13-county region.
