Book Artist to Present Exhibit, Workshop
Brooklyn-based, internationally recognized artist Rory Golden will exhibit selections
from his artist's books in Fairmont State's Brooks Gallery from April 4 through 15.
The exhibition, titled "Crying at the Moon," will include entire books, altered pages
and wall pieces. The artist will lecture about his exhibition in the Brooks Gallery
at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14. He will also conduct a workshop on book arts on Saturday,
April 16, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Room 412 of Wallman Hall.
"Altered Pages," Golden's workshop, will teach participants to make compelling art
from existing books and book pages. Golden will present the fundamentals of book making
tools, materials and techniques to ensure that the participants will understand how
to work with the structures of books, adhesives and paper before creating their own
projects. The cost for attending the "Altered Pages" workshop is $30 for registration
and $5 for materials.
Golden has a varied educational and artistic experience. He received a Bachelor of
Arts degree in speech communication from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio; a Master
of Humanities degree in Japanese religious folklore from Wright State University in
Dayton, Ohio; and a Master of Fine Arts in book arts from The University of Alabama
at Tuscaloosa. He has taught widely and has presented numerous workshops across the
country. He is the proprietor of the Palmpodoca Press in New York and was Executive
Director of The Center for Book Arts in New York from 2000-2004.
Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public. Regular gallery hours are
from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For special viewing arrangements at
