Fowler resigns as athletic director

Feb 27, 2020

Fairmont State University’s Athletic Director Chad Fowler has announced his resignation after more than two years of leading the Fighting Falcons to accept a professional opportunity outside of the athletics industry.

“Chad is going to be greatly missed,” said Mirta M. Martin, president of Fairmont State. “He’s been a vital part of the continued growth of the athletics program, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.  No matter where he goes, Chad will always be a part of the Falcon Family, and he’ll always have a home right here at Fairmont State.”

Fowler was promoted to the position of Director of Athletics in December 2018, after serving in an interim role for one year. Prior to his appointment as Director of Athletics, Fowler served as Associate Director of Athletics for Athletic Development for four year after arriving in July 2013. Fowler saw many accomplishments during his tenure, including assisting in the acquisition of critical donors to complete the $1.2 million renovation to Joe Retton Arena in 2014. The renovation significantly improved the game day experience for Falcon fans while also enhancing the critically important student-athlete experience at Fairmont State.

“It has been a privilege to serve as the Director of Athletics at Fairmont State and the relationships I have built with co-workers, coaches, student-athletes, donors, and community members will be something I cherish as I move into the next stage of my career,” said Fowler. “In my seven years as a member of the athletic's administration, we have made great strides, none of which would be possible without the generous support of the community and donors that have supported our department and 17 Division II athletic programs.”

During his tenure, Fowler also launched the Fighting Falcon $1000 Club to help fund student-athlete scholarships and athletics programs. To date, the $1000 Club has raised over 1.5MM in donations for the Fairmont State Department of Athletics. Fowler also managed all game day sponsorship and advertising efforts since joining the department’s administrative team in the summer of 2013.
