Auditions Planned for Youth Company Class and Show

Feb 02, 2015

The Fairmont State University Academy of the Arts plans to conduct auditions for its upcoming Youth Company class and show this spring.

Up to 25 students from the ages of 7 to 17 will be selected to participate in a new class and show called “From the Page to the Stage.” Through the use of theatre games and improvisation, Youth Company actors will build performance and playwriting skills while creating a theatre piece based on “The King of Little Things,” a story written by West Virginia author and storyteller Bil Lepp. The course, taught by FSU School of Fine Arts faculty member Dr. Francene Kirk with assistance from FSU faculty, staff and students, begins in March and will culminate with public performances in May.

Auditions will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. March 2 in Room 305 of Wallman Hall. Those who would like to set up an audition time should call Leigh Anne Bolyard at (304) 333-3655. Those who audition should prepare a one-minute monologue from a book or play; the monologue does not have to be memorized. Students who sing may bring a 16 to 32 measure song.

The tuition cost per student will be $230. The class dates will be Mondays from March 9 to April 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Rehearsal dates will be May 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13. The company will perform for the Boys and Girls Club on May 14 and will have public performances on May 15, 16 and 17.

The Academy Youth Company is an audition-only performance group that works in cooperation with the FSU Academy for the Arts, Town & Gown Theatre and the FSU Theatre program. For more information, contact Bolyard at (304) 333-3655 or e-mail lbolyard1@fairmontstate.edu.
