FSU School of Fine Arts to Host Iron Pour

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts, in partnership with the West Virginia University School of Art and Design, will host its annual Iron Pour, “Sputnik’s Landing,” on Friday, April 8.

The event, which is open to the public, will take place at noon April 8 behind Duvall-Rosier field on the FSU campus.

“Artists, researchers, educators, students and the community involved at every step. FSU welcomes you to come and watch the show and even make some custom artwork of your own,” said Jeremy Entwistle.

This year, FSU will be employing the custom iron furnace dubbed “Sputnik,” a collaborative project between FSU Professor Jeremy Entwistle, WVU Assistant Professor Dylan Collins and their students in 2014. Sputnik is a cupolette and can produce 180 pounds of iron every 10 to 12 minutes, allowing the iron casters to fill their sand molds. The event is made possible by sponsorships from Quikrete and CONSOL Energy.
