Fairmont State University President Embarks on 2025 Tour of West Virginia to Deepen Connections
Fairmont State University President Mike Davis will travel across the Mountain State from July 27 through August 1 as part of the 2025 Tour of West Virginia. This trip will strengthen relationships with communities and state leaders while celebrating the natural beauty and diversity of West Virginia. It also makes good on a commitment Davis made when he was hired in 2023: to visit every county in the state.
The weeklong tour will take President Davis through Wood, Lincoln, Mingo, McDowell, Wyoming, Pocahontas, and other counties, bringing the number of counties he’s visited to 55—every one in the state. He will make overnight stops at campgrounds and community hubs along the way. Throughout the journey, he will engage with lawmakers, visit local landmarks, and listen directly to residents about how Fairmont State can best support the state’s educational and workforce needs.
“Fairmont State is proud to be a university that not only educates West Virginians but also listens to them,” said Davis. “This tour is about building authentic relationships with the people and places that shape our state. By visiting communities across West Virginia, we’re affirming our role as a partner in progress — supporting students as they reach their goals, strengthening the workforce pipeline, and contributing to the well-being of every region we serve. Fairmont State University is committed to serving the residents of the entire state of West Virginia. Every county matters.”
Davis’ 2025 Tour of West Virginia underscores the University’s vision to be “A Great Place to Learn, to Work, and to Call Home.” By fostering direct dialogue with local communities and elected officials, the University aims to enhance educational access, promote economic development, and better align its programs with statewide priorities.
Through this grassroots-style journey, President Davis will spotlight Fairmont State’s transformative impact on individual lives and its broader contributions to the state’s workforce and economy. The tour also offers a unique opportunity to showcase the character and beauty of rural West Virginia — places where Fairmont State graduates go on to serve as educators, healthcare professionals, engineers, and leaders.
