Bryant Place is one of our newest residence halls, offering a modern facility with suite-style rooms. Living here, you will find the community of the more traditional residence halls combined with a more individual living space.

During final preparations for the start of the semester, we identified conditions in Bryant Place that require extensive repairs. Because this work cannot be completed before move-in, we have arranged alternative housing so students can begin the semester in a comfortable and functional environment while repairs are underway.
We recognize this change is unexpected and may be frustrating. Our priority is ensuring you have comfortable housing and the support you need to assure your well-being and have a successful start to the semester.
Routine room-by-room inspections at Bryant Place identified the need for showers in the suites to be updated and once repair work began, the scope proved larger than first expected. To complete a full and lasting fix, affected students need to be temporarily relocated while crews complete the work. Nearby hotels give us enough short-term space to keep every student housed while the repair is done right.
Displaced students will stay at either the Red Roof Inn (42 Spencer Dr, White Hall, WV 26554) or the Fairfield Inn (27 Southland Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554), both a short distance from campus. Resident Assistants (RAs) will be staffed at both properties throughout the relocation. A full-time staff member will also be available on site.
Rooms come furnished, and RAs and a full-time staff member will be on-site to assist.
Bed linens (mattress pad, sheet, comforter, and two pillows) are provided at check-in; towels and toiletries are available at the front desk on request.
Wireless internet is included, and students keep their regular meal plan for use on campus.
In addition, Residence Life will provide a “Welcome Bag” with snack, hygiene, and other SWAG to assist with the transition.
Housing is also planning additional food support and programming at the hotels later in the semester, including stocked snack stations and occasional group meals, with more detail to follow as it is finalized.
Yes. Every student displaced by the Bryant Place project will receive a housing credit, at 50 percent of the affected semester housing charge, applied to the student account after the census date.
Students do not need to request this; it is applied automatically and will begin processing after September 2.
Students check in directly at their assigned hotel on their scheduled move-in date, with RAs and Professional Staff on-site to assist.
Move-in dates will remain the same, so students should watch for their individual notification with the exact date and time in their Fairmont State email inbox. A room will be held and ready before the student arrives.
Room changes are paused for all students for the duration of the relocation, to keep assignments and communication accurate across two off-site properties. Normal room-change requests will resume once students return to on-campus housing.
Housing is working to ensure pairings are best matched with previous suitemates or roommates.

Students keep their existing meal plan and can use it on campus as usual. Housing is also planning additional food support and programming at the hotels in the future, including stocked snack stations and occasional group meals, with more detail to follow as it is finalized.
Laundry logistics are still being finalized. Students will be able to access any of the residence hall laundry facilities during this time. We are working with local vendors to assist with laundry service as well, as another option for students.
A dedicated shuttle will run a regular loop between both hotels and campus, timed around the daily class schedule, with reduced service on weekends. Students will receive the specific schedule ahead of their move-in date.
Fairmont State University Police are coordinating an evening security presence in partnership with local police, and hotel staff will have a direct protocol for reaching campus safety resources. The security and safety precautions will be equivalent to what is on campus.
Students are expected to follow the same conduct standards as on-campus housing. Resident Assistants (RAs) and a full-time staff member will also be available at these locations to assist with normal day-to-day.

Timelines depend on the pace of repair work, so a single return date has not yet been identified. Updates will go out in stages, and displaced students will be notified directly and individually once their return timeline is set.
Hotels are not able to accommodate emotional support animals, so those students are being placed in on-campus alternatives instead. Students with ADA needs are being contacted individually to review options, since hotel rooms may not meet every accessibility requirement. Questions should go to Residence Life for any pre-approved ESA or other accommodation needs.

Suite-style housing includes private bathroom facilities and a shared common area between just a few residents. Each suite contains four beds, two sinks, one common area, one shower room, and one restroom facility.
Bryant Place features four different common areas available to students. Each lounge has comfortable chairs and tables, providing a perfect environment for focusing on classwork or playing board games with a group of friends.
Bryant Place complies with all ADA guidelines, making it the most convenient choice for many of our residents.
