Folklife Center to Host Book Signing on Feb. 13

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host a reading and book signing by Dr. Suzanne Heagy at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13.

Heagy’s novel, “Love Lets Us Down,” a tale of marriage haunting a fallen 21st century hotel, was published in November 2015 by All Nations Press. The author was a professor of English at Fairmont State University, where she continues to serve as fiction editor for Kestrel: A Journal of Literature and Art. The reading happens to take place on her birthday. Heagy jokes that she was “born between justice and love” because her birthday comes between that of Abraham Lincoln and Valentine’s Day.

The novel is a human tale about romantic notions of love and marriage. Heagy is interested in communication as a vehicle for love and how miscommunication, or romantic assumptions, lead to crossed wires of the heart. Copies of the book will be available for purchase ($15) and signing after the event.

Heagy’s short fiction and poetry have appeared in Your Impossible Voice, Pleiades, Untamed Ink, Dos Passos Review, Poetry Southeast and other journals, as well as Horizons, the annual publication of the South Carolina Writers Guild, and in poetry anthologies by Uphook Press. She has worked as an editor for many years. She was born in Kentucky and lived in Indiana, Texas, South Carolina and Wisconsin before moving to West Virginia.
