Under Dr. Bredeson's Leadership, Fairmont State Student Affairs Flourishes; National Appointment Underscores Excellence
Fairmont State University proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Janna D. Bredeson,
Vice President of Student Affairs, to a prestigious leadership role with the National
Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NAPSA). Dr. Bredeson’s appointment
as the Small Colleges and Universities Division Representative for NASPA Region II
reflects both her outstanding leadership and Fairmont State’s ongoing dedication to
fostering a student-centered environment where student well-being and exceptional
experiences are a top priority.
“Dr. Bredeson embodies what it means to put students first,” said Dr. Michael Davis, President of Fairmont State University. “Her leadership has not only elevated the student experience on our campus, but now, through NASPA, she will help shape the future of Student Affairs across the nation.”
NASPA is the leading professional organization dedicated to the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession. Nearly 60% of its member institutions fall under the small college designation, making Dr. Bredeson’s role especially impactful. In this position, she will serve a two-year term on both the Small Colleges and Universities Division Board and the NASPA Region II Advisory Board, helping guide policies, programs, and professional development opportunities that shape student affairs nationally.
“I am honored to represent Fairmont State and other small colleges across the nation in this role,” said Dr. Bredeson. “Students are at the core of the college experience, and I’m proud of how we’ve worked together at Fairmont State to create a campus where every student feels seen, supported, and celebrated.”
Under Dr. Bredeson’s leadership, Fairmont State has experienced a transformation in student life, marked by a renewed spirit of belonging, engagement, and Falcon pride. Campus traditions have been reinvigorated, student organizations have flourished, and wellness and support services have expanded—all contributing to a vibrant, welcoming environment for every student.
“Dr. Bredeson is a student-oriented leader who truly prioritizes the student experience,” said Elijah Dozer, Student Government Association (SGA) president and Clarksburg, WV, native. “She has such an uplifting personality — you can’t help but smile when you talk to her.”
Dozer said he has noticed a significant shift in campus culture during the past year, crediting Dr. Bredeson as a key contributor.
“I would definitely say there has been a positive shift in the atmosphere on campus. Dr. Bredeson has been a big part of that, along with other administrators,” he said. “While the campus has always been very student-centric in the six years I’ve been here, this past year was incomparable. I believe students have never felt more heard or satisfied with their personal lives and studies than they did this year.”
Dozer also praised Bredeson’s impact on campus leadership and her mentorship of staff.
“Dr. Bredeson has strengthened leaders within the student services department to better serve Fairmont State students,” he said. “Members of SGA have seen her mentor and guide both new and experienced campus leaders to help them connect more effectively with students.”
With Dr. Bredeson helping lead the way, Fairmont State University continues to build a campus where students don’t just attend college—they belong.
