Community Music Program to Accept Registration

Nov 11, 2004

Registration for the Fairmont State Community Music Program's spring classes begins Dec. 15 and continues through January 15, 2005. On-site registration is scheduled for Saturday, January 8, from 10 a.m. until noon in Room 304, Wallman Hall.

The Community Music Program offers private music instruction for all ages from beginner through advanced in the areas of piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and guitar. Class instruction is available on Wednesdays for Beginner Piano levels ages 6-8.

Students may select private instruction on any instrument. Private lessons are registered for 13 sessions beginning the week of January 17. All classes and lessons are held in Wallman Hall on the Fairmont State campus. Students in the program may choose recital performances through high school. Adults do not participate in the recital programs.

All teachers are certified in their area of expertise with a master's degree in performance or the equivalent and hold teaching degrees in music pedagogy of performance for their instrument.

Students may prepare for auditions as well as study for the enjoyment of music, for the development of musical abilities or for exposure to a variety of musical instruments. Basics of music theory, music appreciation and music reading are part of the curriculum, together with techniques for performing and studying repertoire. All styles of music are taught, including classical, jazz, rock, blues and folk among others. There are no waiting lists. Students can begin immediately with the teacher of their choice. The program currently has an enrollment of about 95 students and has a faculty of 13 instructors.

Registration fees for all lessons and classes range from $125 per term for class to $215 per term for private lessons. To register or to ask for more information, call Director Anne Schooley at (304) 366-3758.
