Mission

The mission of Student Outreach & Support (SOS) at Fairmont State University is to empower students to succeed by providing compassionate, individualized support and connecting them with the resources they need to navigate challenges. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment where students can develop self-awareness, self-advocacy, resilience, and problem-solving skills, enabling them to overcome obstacles and achieve their educational goals.

The HUB of the Safety Net

Student Outreach & Support (SOS) at Fairmont State University helps students stay on track and succeed by connecting them with the right resources and support. Our caring staff works one-on-one with students who are experiencing challenges that may disrupt their academic progress, including mental or physical health concerns, personal or family difficulties, and other unexpected situations.

Through individualized case management, SOS provides individualized action planning, advocacy, referrals, and follow-up services tailored to each student’s needs. We help students navigate university systems and policies while also supporting basic needs and overall well-being. Our team creates an inclusive, welcoming environment where students can build skills in self-awareness, self-advocacy, resilience, and problem-solving; empowering them to overcome challenges and make the most of their educational experience.

SOS is a great resource for any student who is feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to turn, or in need of additional support to successfully continue their studies.

Student Outreach and Support is not counseling or therapy; rather, case managers have the opportunity to develop helping relationships with students while coaching them toward appropriate self-care and self-advocacy.

Contact Student Outreach & Support if you or someone you know are experiencing difficulty.

Submit A Care Form

Submitting a CARE Form alerts the Office of Student Outreach & Support that a student may need additional assistance: whether academic, personal, emotional, or behavioral. Once submitted, a trained member of the CARE Team will review the concern, reach out to the student, and connect them with appropriate campus resources.
