Application Process

Now Accepting Applications for the Academic Year

Review of completed applications will begin in March

How to Apply:

  1. Complete an application for admittance to Fairmont State University. (Apply Online)
  2. Complete the AIMSS Online Application
  3. Submit the application online and forward the required documentation to the address specified.

Application Requirements:

  • Students must be high school graduates. They must submit an application to Fairmont State University and be accepted into a degree-seeking program.
  • Students must submit a separate application to the AIMSS Program via our website.
  • Students must submit a copy of a psychological evaluation showing a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Other diagnoses  (examples include ADHD and learning disabilities) may be considered if learning and developmental challenges are found  and are pervasive enough that they would prevent the student successfully earning a college degree without intensive support services and the challenges are compatible with and alleviated by services offered by the AIMSS program.  These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis and take into account the opinion of professionals currently supporting the student's education and future goals.
  • Evaluation should include the results from an intelligence evaluation, such as the WAIS-III, accompanied by subtest scores and a detailed, narrative report;
  • Evaluation should include results from achievement testing (for example, the Woodcock-Johnson Achievement and the Peabody Individual Achievement tests);
  • Students must submit a copy of their most recent IEP, if one is in place.

Each completed application will be reviewed by staff to ensure all University and College Program requirements are met. Those applicants who do meet the requirements---and who have documentation that suggests the AIMSS Program may be a good fit for their specific needs - may be invited to campus for a face-to-face interview. Based upon that interview and the information gathered from the application process, some prospective students will be invited into the AIMSS Program at Fairmont State University. Notification of the decision will be made by mail or email.
