Seniors present capstone seminar findings with peers, faculty

Students in the Biology and Forensic Science programs presented their projects from their senior capstone seminar classes on Friday morning and for the first time ever, presenting to their underclassmen peers. 

Dr. Mark Flood, coordinator of the forensic science program and professor of biology and forensic science, said the capstone process has the students completing independent, mentored research projects in which they apply their theoretical skills to solve real world problems. 

"These programs have decided to have the graduating students share their results with the freshman, sophomores, and juniors in the Biology and Forensic Science Programs so that those students can see what is expected of them in the future,” he said. “They are presenting to the underclassmen to show those students what the process will look like when they get to be seniors.” 

Flood noted those in both programs wanted the students to see the value in independent research as a important hands-on learning method. 

Students who presented include: Makayla Metzger, Jennifer O’Brien, Emily Jordan, Creek Stanton, Amanda Smith, Eamonn Cronin, Cierra Kendall, Travis Harding, Sarah Gandee, Jayme Burkhart, Allison Carvelli, and Hailey McDonough.
