Fairmont State University Extends Priority Scholarship Deadlines

Feb 22, 2021

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fairmont State University has extended several of its scholarship deadlines for the 2021 – 2022 academic year. The priority scholarship date for the Opportunity and Metro Scholarships has been moved from February 1 to April 1 to provide incoming students extended periods to receive their acceptance, submit test scores, etc.

The Opportunity Scholarship provides in-state high school seniors additional funding to assist with tuition and other required University fees, while Metro Scholarships are similarly awarded to first-time freshman from neighboring states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky, Virginia and Washington DC. All students receiving Opportunity and Metro Scholarships must meet criteria outlined by the University Office of Financial Aid.

Additionally, the scholarship deadline for transfer students is July 1.

“Fairmont State University is pleased to offer institutional scholarships based on the student’s admission status as well as Foundation scholarships due to the generosity of our donors to assist students with their educational costs,” said Tresa Weimer, Fairmont State University Executive Director of Student Support Services. “Deadlines are the key to opening up these scholarship opportunities.  Let us help you in making your dream of a higher education become a reality.”

The institutional General Scholarship application deadline remains March 15. Both incoming and current students are encouraged to complete the General Scholarship application in order to determine eligibility for funding awarded through the University’s Office of Financial Aid and Academic Departments.

All scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Fairmont State University will award scholarships for the 2021 – 2022 academic year until funds have been exhausted. For a comprehensive list of scholarships and their requirements, visit www.fairmontstate.edu/scholarships.

“One reason we’ve thrived during the pandemic is due to our agility and flexibility,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “Students and their families have a lot on their plates and are still greatly impacted by this pandemic. Through pushing these deadlines out a bit, we make it easier for more and more students to choose Fairmont State, and become part of the Falcon Family.”

All students completing scholarship applications must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Fairmont State in order to be awarded scholarships through the University. Completing the FAFSA will also enable financial aid counselors to determine a student’s total award package, including but not limited to grants, scholarships, work opportunities and loans. Contact the Office of Financial Aid at (304) 367 – 4141 or FinancialAid@fairmontstate.edu for more information.
