School of Education, Health & Human Performance Honors Students
The Fairmont State University School of Education, Health and Human Performance held its annual Awards Ceremony to honor students for their academic accomplishments on Thursday, May 9.
Attending the event were students, their families, alumni, representatives of the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., staff members from the Office of Institutional Advancement, scholarship donors and faculty and staff of the School of Education, Health and Human Performance.
“We are proud of the work our students, faculty and public school partners do. The ceremony and reception give us a chance to recognize and celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of these people and do so with family members, friends and the community. The scholarships and awards allow us to provide financial assistance to our students who are going to be exemplary members of their chosen professions when they leave Fairmont State. We are thankful for the support of the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. and the University, and the opportunities they help the School of Education, Health and Human Performance create,” said Dr. Van Dempsey, Dean.
Scholarship winners were introduced for education, family and consumer sciences and exercise science; also introduced were students who have received Excellence in Teaching Scholarships.
Scholarship winners introduced for education were Ashley N. Bennett, Brittany N. Dobbins, Barbara Donini, Julia L. Falkenklous, Felicia D. Fordyce, Sarah R. Garcia, Jennifer L. Hanlin, Crystal D. Johnson, Jessica L. Leech, Hannah M. Ludwick, Ciera D. Martin, Kelly J. Maze, Paige A. Phillips, Carolyn Rittenhouse, Kari A. Sims, Raphael J. Snell, Melanie N. Springer, Alyssa L. Swiger and Ashley B. White.
The Harry J. Hadley Award for Teaching Excellence was awarded to two public school teachers, Joy Gaines and Deborah Ann Coburn Sabo.
Adrienne Beiler received the Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship. Emily K. Crow and Corey J. Smith were recognized for Outstanding Student Teaching. Andrea D. Carpenter was awarded the Wendell G. Hardway Award for Teaching Excellence. The A. & L. Hawkins Graduate Student in English Award went to Rebecca M. DeWitt. Chelsea L. Holcomb received the Outstanding Student in Health and Human Performance Award.
Kappa Delta Pi honored two students this year. They were Melissa K. Higgins and Ashley N. Phillips. Kappa Delta Phi is an International Honor Society in Education, recognizing excellence in education whose membership exhibits the ideals of scholarship, high personal standards and achievement and contribution to education.
