Fairmont State announces presidential speaker series; Newly established Civics Institute to support fall programming

As part of President Mike Davis’s vision for Fairmont State University to be a “Great Place to Learn,” the University has established the Presidential Speaker Series. Covering politics, economics, healthcare, science, the environment, and the arts, speakers will address topics that impact the entire Falcon community. The theme for Fall 2024 is Civic Dialogues, exploring the importance of an informed and engaged electorate to American Democracy.

Fairmont State University Receives Grant to Hold Exhibit on West Virginia Glass Industry in Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center

Fairmont State University has received $2,000 through the West Virginia Humanities Council. This grant will be used to curate, promote, and actualize Sand and Fire: 200 Years of West Virginia Glass, a Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center exhibit highlighting how the glass industry led to significant economic development in West Virginia during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Dulcimer Jam Takes Center Stage at Fairmont State’s Folklife Center

One of the most notable events at the Folklife Center is the Wartz ‘n All Dulcimer Jam, held twice a year. The next jam is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, beginning at 10 a.m. This free event is open to the public, inviting everyone to participate by playing or simply enjoying the music. New players can borrow cardboard dulcimers to join in the fun. The day will wrap-up around 3 p.m.

Fairmont State students win big at Alpha Phi Sigma conference

Fairmont State University’s chapter of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society returned from the annual Alpha Phi Sigma conference with 11 wins, including a first place win in the crime scene competition. Chapter president Carissa Russell led her team to a victory in what many consider the conference’s most challenging competition.

Fairmont State’s Community Health Promotion Program enters into Articulation Agreement with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s Criminal Justice Program

Fairmont State University’s Community Health Promotion program has entered into an articulation agreement with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College’s (BRCTC) Criminal Justice program.This agreement will help BRCTC criminal justice graduates expand their education through a simplified transfer process and allow them to better their careers and communities.

Fairmont State extends scholarship deadline and offers additional financial aid opportunities for new incoming students

With the recent FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) delays across the United States, Fairmont State University has identified a need to adjust the deadline for institutional scholarship applications and offer additional financial aid to new incoming students. The original scholarship application deadline of April 1 has been extended to August 1, 2024. This will allow those experiencing FAFSA delays more time to apply for the many scholarship opportunities offered at Fairmont State.
