America/FS Counts Offers Math Tutoring
In conjunction with the Fairmont State GEAR-UP Partnership, the America/Fairmont State
Counts program is planning for its spring session to be held at Fairmont State.
The free math tutoring program, supervised by Pam Kabulski and coordinated by Donna
Yergovich Nuzum, is offered to students grades five through eight who are experiencing
math difficulties.
The one hour/once a week sessions, which run for eight weeks, are offered Tuesdays
at 5 or 6 p.m. OR Wednesdays at 5:30 or 6:30 p.m. The program starts Feb.28-March
1 and runs through April 25-26.
The program is structured to help with math homework difficulties and/or specific
math difficulties.
Fairmont State tutors, who are proficient in math, aid each child in developing his
or her math skills. Kabulski, a Marion County math teacher and the on-site supervisor,
will be present to assist each tutor and student.
"The students benefit greatly from the small group instruction and support they receive
from their tutors," Kabulski said.
Pre-registration is necessary for students to attend the program. Parents or guardians
may register students by phone by calling (304) 367-4579 or by e-mailing nwoodson@fairmontstate.edu. Those calling or e-mailing should provide the following information:
- Student's name (please spell if calling)
- Student's grade
- Day and time desired
- Parent/guardian name (please spell if calling)
- Phone number
Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of students
will be accommodated.
