Employee Perks & Possibilities

• Tuition Waivers may be awarded in any academic term, including summer sessions. Waivers are limited in number and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Tuition waivers will not be guaranteed from one semester to the next.
• A full-time employee may be allowed time off during scheduled work hours to attend class provided the employee’s absence will not interfere with their work unit’s operation. Each immediate supervisor has the responsibility to approve or reject requests. This is applicable to both exempt and non-exempt employees. Please refer to Board of Governors Policy 40 for more information.
• Benefits-eligible employees may apply for a maximum of 6 credit hours per semester or 12 credit hours per academic year of tuition waiver assistance to Fairmont State University.
• Completed forms must be submitted each semester/term to the Human Resources Office ten (10) working days prior to the beginning of the term for which the waiver is being requested.
• Recipients must be admitted as a “regular” degree seeking student.
• Eligible full-time employees must receive written approval (signature) from their immediate supervisor and their Vice President.
• Tuition waiver recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and be in good standing with Fairmont State University. Employees on academic probation will not be eligible to receive tuition waivers. If a program requires a higher GPA to remain enrolled, that requirement will supersede.
• Tuition and fee waivers will be applied first to charges. Any federal, state, and/or private aid will be applied after that. Please note that if any dependent is receiving any other tuition and fee funding (e.g. WV Promise Scholarship), the fee waiver will be reduced to ensure funding does not exceed tuition and fee charges, which is prohibited by regulations. The waiver may be able to cover other fees in certain situations.

• Employees may express interest in furthering their education or their immediate supervisor may request an employee to consider further education. Supervisors may not mandate additional education or retaliate against an employee who chooses not to participate.
• Each semester, applications for waivers, once requested by the employee and approved by the supervisor and Vice President, will be reviewed for final approval by the Office of Financial Aid.
• Should the office deny a request, an employee may appeal the request to their cabinet level representative or Human Resources.
• If the employee, immediate supervisor, and Vice President agree that a certain class(es) may provide benefit to the employee’s professional development in lieu of seeking a full degree, the employee may apply through the standard process and request an exemption be granted by the Office of Human Resources.

Definition – A dependent is defined as the employee’s spouse, child(ren), or partner. The employee must provide the applicable documentation from the list below that verifies the spouse, child(ren), or partner. Acceptable documentation:

1. Federal income tax return which lists each dependent
2. Copy of marriage license
3. Copy of birth certificate
4. Copy of legal adoption

• A dependent shall be eligible for tuition waivers as a full or part-time student provided that the dependent does not exceed twenty-six (26) years of age and meets eligibility guidelines for dependent status as established by the IRS.

Dependents on academic or social probation will not be eligible to receive tuition waivers. If a program requires a higher GPA to remain enrolled, that requirement will supersede.

   • Log on using your Fairmont State email address
2. After you click Create Account you will be brought to the page below, which will allow you to login via Fairmont State Single Sign-On
   • Re-enter your Fairmont State email address
   • If you are not on a Fairmont State network, you may have to validate your identify
   • Once you click ‘Continue,’ you will be directed to the NY Times home page
3. You can then set up the NYTimes app on your phone or tablet

1. You must first cancel your personal subscription to the NY Times
   • The fastest and easiest way is to use the NY Times app. For more options, visit the NY Times resource page.
   • Log out of the NY Times using your personal account. You might assume this happens automatically when you cancel your personal subscription, it does not
2. Visit the NY Times Single Sign-on (SSO) Landing page
   
   • Log on using your existing NY Times account
3. After you click Log In you will be brought to the page below, which will allow you to log in via Fairmont State Single Sign-On
   
   • Enter your Fairmont State email address
   • If you are not on a Fairmont State network, you may have to validate your identify
   • If you have paid subscriptions to other content such as Games, Cooking, The Athletic, or Wirecutter, these should not interfere with adding News via SSO
   • Once you click ‘Continue,’ you will be directed to the NY Times home page
4. You can then set up the NYTimes app on your phone or tablet
