Marching Band Audition Information

Auditions for woodwind, brass, percussion, and color guard positions in the 2026 Fairmont State Falcon Marching Band will be conducted via video submissions.  Prospective band members should submit their videos through an unlisted YouTube link.  The deadline for submitting links to videos is July 15, 2026.  After a thorough review of submitted videos, the Fairmont State University Band office will release audition results via individual emails by July 20, 2026.  Students accepted into the band must successfully register for the class by July 25, 2026.  The email notice of acceptance into band will contain additional information about class registration, band camp, important dates, and other pertinent details.  All audition requirements, sheet music, excerpts, and reference recordings may be found online. 

2026 Audition Requirements

• The video does not need to be completed in one single take but must be unedited.  Any evidence of editing will result in immediate disqualification.
• Wind instrumentalists must ensure that their fingers/ hands and embouchure are visible in their video.  
• Percussionists must ensure that their face and instrument are visible in their video.
• Color Guard members must follow the prompts given for the Color Guard audition requirements. 
• Upload the video to YouTube as an unlisted video to ensure that it has the appropriate privacy settings for the Fairmont State University Band staff may access it. Please include your name and instrument in the title of the video.
• Sousaphone, marching baritone, and mellophone players can use the concert equivalent of their marching instrument. If you do not have access to an instrument typically provided by Fairmont State University bands, please contact Dr. Schwartz at alyssa.schwartz@fairmontstate.edu to discuss options. 
• If you are auditioning on more than one instrument, please submit a separate video audition for each instrument.
