WEATHER ALERT - Campus to Reopen Wednesday, January 28; Use Caution when Traveling

All campuses of Fairmont State University will return to regular operations on Wednesday, January 28.

Students – In-person classes will be held.
Faculty – In-person classes will be held. Please communicate directly with students if you change modality or assignments.
Staff – Offices will be open on campus.

Supervisors and faculty are asked to exercise maximum flexibility regarding remote work, to ensure the continued safety of those impacted by the storm. Please consult with faculty or supervisors if you are unable to safely return to campus.

Operational updates follow:

When on campus please exercise caution and avoid icy areas, as the thick layer of ice we received, together with the extremely cold temperatures, are slowing efforts to clear walkways.
Temperatures will be below zero the remainder of the week. Falcons are encouraged to take precautions against the very low temperatures.

The Weather Committee continues monitoring the impact of Winter Storm Fern. If additional updates are necessary, they will be communicated in a timely manner through our emergency alert system, email, social media, and the University website.

Note that due to this weather system, we anticipate the top deck of the parking garage will remain closed for the coming days. (This location accounts for a significant portion of winter slip, trip, and fall injuries on campus. To support the integrity of the structure, salt or other ice melting agents cannot be used. Structural deterioration from de-icers can lead to major repairs costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.) The University will alert motorists via large yellow signs posted at the traffic circle, near Turley Center, and at the top of the hill.

Anyone is eligible to purchase a membership to the Falcon Center. For family memberships, a proof of marriage and dependent status will be required. For someone to be eligible for a dependent status, they must be 24 years of age or younger.

Locker Rentals

Semester Locker Rental (Fall, Spring & Summer) - $20
Yearly Locker Rental - $60 Yearly (Students may not rent lockers yearly)

Age Policy - Children

Under 16 years: An adult must accompany the child through the customer service desk and remain with the child in the facility.
16 years and older: Youth can enter the facility without adult supervision.

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Misrepresenting your association with Fairmont State University to obtain an identification card to the Falcon Center will result in immediate termination without refund.
Fairmont State employees are not allowed to continue usage of the Falcon Center upon termination of employment at Fairmont State University .
Once a membership has been purchased, there is no freezing of accounts or refunds. Exception: employees can cancel payroll deduction through membership services. They will be able to rejoin, but will not be able to re-start payroll deduction for six months after cancellation
Employee memberships are yearly, and student family memberships are per semester. Memberships will be paid in advance with cash, check or charge card, except for eligible employees who pay with payroll deduction.
