Surveying & Geomatics Engineering Technology

Overview

The Surveying and Geomatics program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Committee (ETAC) of ABET.

The Surveying and Geomatics Engineering Technology curriculum is based on interdisciplinary content encompassing technology, natural sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and general studies. The degree has a focus on:

  • Professional surveying practices
  • Interpreting land records
  • Boundary retracement
  • Geodesy
  • Photogrammetry
  • Environmental engineering
  • Hydraulics and hydrology

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this program are qualified for an entry-level position as a Surveying Technician. Graduates may work as a field surveyor or by using field data imagery to created computer-based drawings and maps. Baccalaureate graduates are eligible to sit for the Fundamentals of Surveying Exam. This is the first step to becoming a registered Professional Surveyor. Specific job titles for graduates may include:

  • Surveying Technician
  • Geographic Information System Technician
  • Survey Apprentice
  • Survey Crew Chief
  • Geomatics Technician
