Fairmont State University’s Board of Governors (BOG) exercises its responsibilities in part by adopting, amending, and repealing policies. BOG Policies are listed online. BOG Policy 1.1 “delegates to the President the authority to adopt administrative policies and/or administrative procedures to effectuate the implementation of this BOG Policy, or in furtherance of any other authority that the Board of Governors has expressly delegated to the President”.
An administrative policy indicates what we should do, and an administrative procedure specifies how we should do it. Based on the BOG’s delegation, the President retains the authority to issue administrative policies and procedures that apply to more than one division. However, the President delegates to Vice Presidents (or their equivalents) the authority to issue administrative policies and procedures that apply to a single division or unit(s) within a division.
Administrative policies and procedures have been numbered according to the following convention: Each policy is assigned a 4-digit number (e.g., 1101). The first two digits (e.g., 1101) indicates whether it applies to multiple divisions or one division, and the final two digits (e.g., 2001) identify the specific administrative policy or procedure.
