*NOTE: The Theatre major, the Music major, the Theatre Education major, the Music Education major, the Theatre minor, and the Music minor will no longer be offered after the 2020-21 academic year. 

If you’re interested in participating in music or theatre, there are numerous performing arts opportunities available, including marching band, numerous choirs, and a vibrant community theatre.
The Fairmont State University Department of Music provides excellent musical instruction for its students through a highly qualified professional staff of performing and teaching professors, a constantly improving and varied curriculum, and a series of sequential musical experiences for students in all music degree programs. The department delivers in exposing music students to many new and innovative educational and musical ideas as well as emphasizing the musical heritage of the past. The music department offers a variety of ensembles, including marching band, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, African drum and dance ensemble, collegiate singers, and chamber choir. These ensembles regularly perform on campus, at regional events, and on performance tours.

Be a Music Major for a Day - Monday, October 14, 2019

Every fall semester we set aside a day in October for prospective students to experience the Department of Music at Fairmont State University. Any student that is considering a major or minor in music is invited to join our department for the day to experience what the Department of music offers its students. Register for the day by completing the online registration form.

9:00 a.m. – Freshman Theory
10:00 a.m. – Admissions introduction and Campus Tour 
11 a.m. – Lunch with the Department of Music Faculty 
12 p.m. – Intro to Piano/Chamber Choir observations 
1 p.m. – Collegiate Choir observation
2 p.m. – Fairmont Faculty Gala Concert
3:15 p.m. – Visit Marching Band rehearsal at the practice field

2019 Falcon Marching Band Registration

The Fairmont State University Falcon Marching Band is currently looking for new members to join us for the 2018 fall semester. Starting this fall, all members of the Falcon Marching Band will receive at least a $300 scholarship for their participation. Please follow the link below to submit your contact information and make sure that you have registered for MUSI 1168 (CRN-10067) when you schedule your classes for the fall semester. All students, regardless of their major, are eligible to participate.
