Master of Science in Healthcare Management Admissions Policy

Admission to the Master of Science Degree in Healthcare Management (MHCM) is competitive and based upon a minimum undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and submission of Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.  Admission requires:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 2.75 overall undergraduate GPA on a 4.0 scale or 3.0 on the last 60 hours attempted
  • Receipt of GMAT or GRE scores
    • Currently waived for applicants
  • Acceptance in Graduate Studies at Fairmont State University

Students applying to the College of Business & Aviation must meet the minimum requirements for graduate study. Applicants who do not meet all minimum admission criteria may be admitted provisionally by applying at least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience as an additional measure.

The MHCM is designed to assist participants in application of concepts and principles offered in the diverse operations that comprise the U.S. healthcare system. The program is designed for those working professionals with a four-year clinical degree, or those with business or non-business undergraduate majors. This program also provides an option for undergraduates who are planning to continue their education at the master’s level or beyond.

Applicants who satisfy admission criteria will require thirty-six (36) graduate credit hours to meet degree requirements. The program is intended to serve the needs of the state as well as contiguous regions with particular focus on developing management skills to advance careers or seek new opportunities for leadership in healthcare organizations that range from acute-care hospitals, post-acute facilities, community-based health agencies, public institutions or other affiliated-care continuum agencies.
