Caperton Center to Host College Goal Sunday

Jan 29, 2015

The Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg will be one of multiple locations throughout the state to host the annual College Goal SundaySM event on Sunday, Feb. 15, presented by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

The College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), the West Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and several other college access programs work together to coordinate the event.

During the free workshops, students and parents can receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA is one of the most important steps in preparing for education and training beyond high school, because this single form often serves as the gateway to state and federal financial aid programs.

The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Caperton Center, 501 West Main St., Clarksburg. The Caperton Center offers classes for Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College. For more information about the Caperton Center, visit http://www.fairmontstate.edu/about/capertoncenter.

A full list of site locations, times, items families should bring and other details will be available through the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), the state’s college access web portal, https://secure.cfwv.com/Financial_Aid_Planning/College_Goal_Sunday.aspx.

During the event, financial aid experts volunteer their time to be on hand to help students and families complete and submit the FAFSA and explore additional financial aid resources that may be available. At the Caperton Center location, there will be drawings for door prizes, including a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.

Online pre-registration is recommended, but not required for participation in this free workshop. Anyone planning to attend college next fall (or already enrolled) can participate, including graduating high school seniors, returning college students or adult students interested in returning to school to earn a degree or certificate. Parents may attend to learn more or to complete the FAFSA on behalf of their student.
